Premier League Weekend Roundup – 4-5 April 2015

Yesterday’s match results started in shocking fashion with Arsenal delivering a 4-1 demolition of Liverpool in a 12:45 encounter. Only a 76th minute penalty from Jordan Henderson prevented Liverpool from going out without a whimper. This is likely a fatal blow for Liverpool’s hopes of Champions League qualification.

Liverpool’s loss guaranteed that Man Utd would maintain at least a five-point lead ahead of their 15:00 clash with Aston Villa. Man Utd were not quite as effective as in their recent victories over Tottenham and Liverpool, but they still came through with a 3-1 win. The Reds are now in third and hold an eight-point lead ahead of Liverpool.

In other results, Chelsea are in first place and eight points ahead of Arsenal after beating Stoke 2-1. QPR managed a rare 4-1 away victory versus West Brom, while Everton surprised many by overcoming Southampton to win 1-0.

Sunday 5 April was a fantastic day at Sedgefield, where the going was good to soft on a sunny afternoon of action. Apterix began the day by winning as favourite at 11/8 in the 14:00 Novices Hurdle.

Major Ivan was the second favourite of the day to win, taking the 14:35 Novices Hurdle at 5/4. My Friend George made it three favourite victories in a row by winning the 15:05 Handicap Chase at 2/1.

Sparkling Hand at last gave the crowd an outside victory. Henry Brooke managed to ride Sparkling Hand to win at 5/1 in the 15:35 Handicap Hurdle. Special Portrait then restored order by winning as favourite at 2/1 in the 16:05 Open Hunters Chase.

Jebulani then delivered an extremely rewarding payout at 16/1 in the 16:40 Handicap Hurdle. However, the most lucrative win of the day’s UK horse racing results was for Another Dark Rum at 22/1 in the 17:15 Hunters Chase.

Grand National 2015 Tips: Look Past Tony McCoy

Another Grand National is nearly upon us. This year’s instalment of the legendary steeplechase will be running on Saturday 11 April at 16:15. All through the week, punters will be trying to find a winner.

However, it s highly unlikely that anybody will do better than Aurora’s Encore winning last year at 66/1. The reward for the winning owner will be the lion’s share of a £1 million prize fund.

Iconic jockey Tony McCoy is already proving popular among punters. The Irishman will be riding Shutthefrontdoor at 7/1, but the Guardian believes that we should be looking at other prospects.

The Guardian’s free horse racing naps suggest that Rocky Creek at 9/1 is a more likely winner, as is The Druids Nephew at 12/1. McCoy’s horse is being overestimated because of his track record. Betting each way make sense for the Grand National, with such a high volume of runners.
