Liverpool have endured damaging Premier League defeats that will almost certainly prove fatal for their Champions League aspirations. After a 2-1 loss to Man Utd and an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, Liverpool had to get back on track in this quarter-final replay with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday 8 April.
From the UK football results last night, Liverpool restored a modicum of hope in beating Blackburn 1-0 away. Despite commanding an overwhelming 68% of possession, Liverpool struggled against their Championship opponents. Brendan Rodgers’ team were only able to create five attempts on target from 16 total attempts.
Rodgers had selected a strong starting 11 by playing Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho, and Jordan Henderson. However, those stars could not break through the Blackburn defence for much of the game. A neat piece of play from Coutinho in the 71st minute at last gave Liverpool a narrow 1-0 victory.
